Clarendelle Pessac Leognan

This Clarendelle Pessac-Leognan Reserve draws its inspiration from the quality, elegance and harmony of the wines produced by Domaine Clarence Dillon. It is especially well balanced and reflects the excellence and tradition of its heritage. Thanks to a skillful blend of four traditional Bordeaux grape varietals, Clarendelle Pessac-Leognan is a wine of character with a subtle structure.

Tasting notes

This wine is a beautiful deep, dark red colour with crimson highlights. It starts out fairly discreet on the nose at this stage yet characteristic of the appellation, marked by dark fruit notes. Swirling in the glass reveals subtle and complex aromas of red and black fruit at just the right level of ripeness. Liquorice, smoky and slightly peppery hints of tobacco, come to the fore, mingled with roasted nuances. The palate is remarkably sweet, elegant and complex. Distinctive oaky flavours delicately melt in the mouth, revealing notes of forest floor. The velvety, silky texture is underpinned by beautiful acidity and a smooth and firm tannic structure. A wide range of fruity aromas emerge, accompanied by toasty overtones and hints of vanilla. All in all, a very well-balanced and complex wine with a long and delicious fruity finish.

Climate

After a relatively dry winter, a spell of unsettled weather set in, marked by stormy conditions at the very start of the growing season. Spring was highly contrasted, alternating between very mild and cooler periods. Bud break occurred later than average, allowing most plots to escape the early April frosts. The mild and wet spring significantly increased mildew pressure in the vineyards throughout the season.

However, these conditions led to steady, yet not overly vigorous, vine growth. Flowering took place in late May to early June, under optimal dry conditions, with no coulure. The rest of the summer, marked by high temperatures and occasional thunderstorms, supported berry development through to véraison.

The Indian summer in September and October once again favoured late ripening and ensured ideal harvest conditions. In Pessac, ripening was very good across mostgrape varieties, with berries showing excellent concentration and high levels ofsugars and phenolic compounds. They were fresh, ripe, and full of flavour.
